If you have been with me for any length of time, you know I have long been a fan of the work of Dr. John Gray. I first came across his work around 1997, I believe. At the time, my husband and I were just discovering some tools to enhance the communication in our marriage. One was a personality profile, the Rembrandt Portrait, which measures 14 innate personality characteristics. The second was the Myers Briggs Type Indicator which helps you to understand your preferences in 4 different areas, and finally, Dr. John Gray’s work with “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus“. Each of these tools helped us a great deal as we learned more about each other and our preferred methods of communication. Dr. Gray has written prolifically on the subject of gender differences and there impact on communication and relationships.
I recently had the opportunity to apply, and be accepted, into Dr. Gray’s program to become a Licensed Life Coach in the Mars/Venus program. For a very long time, I have had a desire to assist others achieve their potential. As a side note, I always said that I wanted a dozen children. I was blessed with one. A friend of mine tells me that I have raised my dozen children, and then some, due to the impact I have been able to have on others as I have helped them reach for their potential and their dreams. Becoming a Mars/Venus Life Coach fulfills my dream of being able to assist more people to live the life of their dreams. The course and training have been exciting and challenging and definitely a growth opportunity for me.
Each of us have experiences in our life which may limit our ability to achieve our dreams and goals. We set ceilings for ourselves, unconsciously, as a result of those experiences. As a Life Coach I will assist people to find and live the life of their dreams by breaking through those limitations or self-imposed ceilings. In my coaching practice I will work with individuals and groups, as well as teach seminars and workshops. I am excited to move forward in this part of my journey.
Years ago, after discovering Dr. Gray’s first book, I had the opportunity of teaching some of the concepts in a community leadership class. Utilizing his concepts, I created a game show format exercise. It was a lot of fun as we pitted the men against the women and worked at understanding how the genders function differently in the workplace. Then we took that further to understand how those differences impact our communication.
Some time after that I re-packaged the game to use it as a tool in helping couples understand the impact of gender difference on communication within marriage. Both game settings were a lot of fun and very educational.
I am really looking forward to the opportunity of conducting the Mars/Venus workshops and the private and group coaching. By the end of the year I will be Licensed and ready to move forward assisting others to achieve the life of their dreams, both personally and professionally.
What a great way to start off the New Year!
