A Difference in Perspective

The second Bulletproof Your Marriage Couples’ Retreat has come to an end.  We had an amazing time with our guests, and I believe I can speak for them, when I say they had a powerfully positive experience.

Some years ago I was introduced to this picture.  Many of you may have seen it before as well.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, please take a moment and look at it.  Some people, when looking at it, see a beautiful woman with a feather in her hair.  Others see an older, haggish, woman with a large nose and pointy chin.  Which do you see?

Perspective Picture
What makes the difference?  Why do some people see it one way and others see it another?
It is all a matter of perspective.
How many times have you and your spouse come at a problem from a different perspective?  Are you usually able to work your way through it, or does it become a source of contention in your marriage?
Sometimes, Kent (my husband who has passed) and I would find ourselves disagreeing about something when we were actually saying the same thing, just differently.  After fussing about it for a bit, to break the negative atmosphere that was developing, I would say ‘Black’, and he would come back with ‘White’.  It broke the tension and allowed us to realize that we were becoming negative over something that was inconsequential.  It helped us realize that we were seeing the same picture, but from different perspectives.
If your relationship is suffering it may be, in great part, due to different perspectives.  You may be interested in the limited time ‘Relationship Rescue Coaching Session’ that I am offering.
